Day 59 - Electric Frying Pan

Today I am ridding my kitchen of this old Sunbeam electric frying pan that once belonged to my grandmother. It was aging when I got it nearly nineteen years ago. Does that tell you how old this thing is?

Circa 1970-something?

The sentimentality in me doesn't want to let go of it, but good gravy! I think it's time.

Day 58 - Vinyl Albums

I haven't listened to vinyl albums in years. There is no reason to keep any of them, especially those that are not my own.

Neil Young, Itzhak Perlman, and U2

These albums were returned to their original owner.

Day 57 - Jeans

This pair of jeans has done me well. They fit right and lasted. The time has come to part with them, however. Made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex, the stretchiness of the fabric has become pucker-y after many washings and wearings.

Even though it crosses my mind that maybe they should visit the garbage bin, I'm tossing them into the donation box. Someone might be able to use them for something.

Day 56 - Sweat Shirt

Have you ever had one of those BIG sweat shirts that you sort of cuddle up in on cold days, or on days when you're not feeling well? It's almost like wearing a blanket. Well, I have a few of those and I decided I really only need one.

I am letting go of this red one. Bye, Mr. Cuddly-Sweat-Shirt!

Day 55 - Mugs

Today I'm giving away a set of four coffee mugs. I don't like them, so I never use them.

Mug Shot

These cups will join the other items headed for "Salvation".

Day 54 - Pillow Cases

Good evening, everyone! I'm posting this a little late. I'm tired and will soon be hitting the pillows. This, by the way, brings me to the subject of what I will be getting rid of on this lovely, chilly night. Pillow cases! Two pairs.

They are rarely used and the matching sheets are long gone, so it's time to let go of the pillow cases. Adios and good night! Don't let the bed bugs bite.

Day 53 - Tap Shoes

My son was going to learn tap dance in college, but ended up not doing it. Here are the unworn shoes ready to be donated.

Tap, tap, tappin' away

Day 52 - T-Shirts

It is well past dinner time and the donation box is hungry. I think I will feed it some t-shirts. Yum!

Why do they make me think of green beans, black beans, and red beans?

Day 51 - Shoes

You know women and their shoes. They collect too many, right? Well, I have never been one to buy or keep too many pairs, but the shoes I have do tend to stick around in my closet far past their expiration date.

Time for these guys to take a hike!

Day 50 - Camera

Today I am letting go of a really great little camera. It's been around since 1999 and uses floppy disks. Yeah, I did say floppy disks. Haha! I no longer own a computer with a floppy disk drive, so unfortunately I have no use for this camera in my household.

Sony Mavica Digital Camera

Here's a bit of trivia. The name "MAVICA" was derived from the words "Magnetic Video Camera", using the first two letters of each word. The funny thing is that this camera takes still photos, not videos.

I'm giving it away to someone who can use it. I think it will be a great investment for a little guy to learn photography.

Day 49 - Epoxy

Old epoxy was found in the junk drawer.
It's all dried up and not good anymore.
I'm no longer keepin' it stashed.
Now it's going straight into the trash.

Just having a little rhyme time, but oh no!
Now this little ditty is going to be "stuck" in my head - super strength!

Day 48 - Son's Jacket

This jacket belonged to my Son #2. I don't think he liked it much as he didn't wear it long. It's been hanging in the hall closet for a very long time. I thought about giving it to Son #1 since I KNOW he likes the style.

Jacket that belonged to Son #2

The following is proof that Son #1 likes this particular style of jacket.
Son #1 is wearing this jacket every time I see him.

May 2008
San Diego, California

Different jacket. Same style!
August 2010

I'm going to give the jacket to the Salvation Army. I think Son #1 has outworn the style. Don't you?
Sorry, Lance. I LOVE YOU!

Day 47 - Belt

I was looking through my dresser drawer and this one almost jumped up and bit me! Yikes! I better get rid of it, right?

Belt not worn in years

This belt is going into the donation box tonight.

Day 46 - Aquapics

What ARE these do-hinkies? If you're crafty at all and have ever done any floral arranging, you may know that these are Aquapics, or water tubes. They are designed to hold flowers in water. You fill it with water and place the flower through the top to keep the flower fresh. These were received in arrangements and I kept them to use for cut roses from my yard.

I might have used them a time or two but now they are just taking up drawer space. I'd like to see them take up space somewhere else -- not in my house. So long tubies!

Day 45 - Empty Boxes

If my life was an empty box, I'd fill it with ___. Fill in the blank. How would you fill your box? I found a wonderful little devotion online entitled "The Empty Box". Check it out: www.peggiesplace.com/words138.htm

Digging through a drawer I found these little empty boxes that are going in the trash. Bub-bye, little boxes.

Holy Tamoly! Why do I save this stuff??!!!

PS: It's Valentine's Day. Did you tell someone you love them today?

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Day 44 - Sweaters

Does this sweater make my butt look big? Oh please! If I even have to ask, then why keep it? I'm getting rid of two more sweaters today. I always loved the color of the plum sweater, and it's so lusciously toasty warm. It is a long knee-length, but is not flattering, so I'm putting it into the donation box. And the blue sweater? Well, I think it's been around for about 18 years or so. I mean, shoulder pads! Seriously? Yep, these sweaters have G2G!

Day 43 - Computer Monitors

Our community had an E-Waste Electronics Collection Event today, so I brought two old dusty, cobweb covered computer monitors from my garage. These will go through the proper recycling process and not into the landfills.

Recycling the right way!!! Yay!!!

Day 42 - Shower Curtain

This shower curtain doesn't look so bad in the picture, but it was getting pretty ratty. I had a liner and another curtain waiting in line to take their turn on the rings. So I took the old one down and put them up.

The striped curtain went in the trash and the newer curtain is looking pretty nice. Day 42 down. 323 days to go!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Day 41 - VHS Movies

Why am I getting rid of two of my favorite movies? Because I also have them on DVD. Clearly there is no need to keep the old VHS versions.

Two movies gone. Check!

Day 40 - Sweet Longjohns

So... What is it today? Well, I went into my closet and told myself it was decision time. Hmm... Looks like it's these sweet pink longjohns and summer robe. The hangers get more use out of them than I do. Good-bye closet. Hello donation box!

So long johns!
Today marks 40 consecutive days of ridding and blogging. There must be some kind of reward for that, right? ;)

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Day 39 - Blazer

Not keepin' the blazer. Not keepin' the blazer.
Not keepin' the blaze-errr!

Good-bye blazer. Good-bye blazer.
Good-bye blaze-errr!

Haha! Well, that was fun. :)

PS: The Salvation Army truck picked up my first full box today. It's gone forever. Yeah!! Gettin' the job done. That's what I'm talkin 'bout!!!

Monday, February 7, 2011

Day 38 - More Sweaters

Back in my closet I found more sweaters for the new donation box. It's a shame, really. They are such nice sweaters. But I don't like them on me and never wear them.

Farewell, knit sweaters! More room in my closet. Yeah! You know it!!!

Day 37 - Doorknobs, Locks, and a Latch

Well, it's Super Bowl Sunday and today I've got my idea of who's going to win all locked in. Which brings me to what I'm getting rid of today. A couple of locks with keys, two doorknobs, and a latch. These have been sitting in my garage for oooooh so long. Time to let go of them.

Doorknobs, locks, and a latch
Donation box #1 is in line for pickup, while I find a new box for these goldilocks. :)

The best pickup line: "Salvation Army, Please send a truck to pick up my donation box." Yessss!!!! That makes me smile!

Saturday, February 5, 2011

Day 36 - Sweaters

Today I'm losing three bulky sweaters that have a distinct '80s look to them. Sheesh! Can they be that old?

1, 2, 3... GO!!!

Whether or not they are actually THAT old, they are old enough to know better... to know better than to stick around in my closet. Haha! They were put into the donation box which is now officially FULL! Time to schedule a Salvation Army truck for pickup.

Friday, February 4, 2011

Day 35 - Jacket

Today it's a jacketa-jacketa-jacketa! Remember "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" with Danny Kaye? Ta-pocketa-pocketa-pocketa...

Stained - Wrong Size - Not Worn Anymore

I found this jacket in the hall closet. Once upon a time it was enjoyed. I love the feel of the 100% polyester micro-fibre fabric. Now the poor jacket is stained, too big, and never worn; just hangs around and does nothing. Haha! Time for the box.

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Day 34 - Baking Pan

This one's not so hot. Well, I mean this aluminum baking pan NEVER gets hot because I don't ever use it. I have had it for a very long time and I'm not even sure where it came from. Isn't it weird how things just show up like that?

Well, since it is taking up space and not being useful, out it goes... to the donation box!

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Day 33 - Shirts

Shirts! A stack of shirts came out of the hall closet today and jumped right into the donation box. Oh yes, they knew it was time!

My boys are grown & on their own. The shirts were left.

Spring is coming early... Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see his his shadow today. Happy Groundhog Day!

Day 32 - More CDs

It's getting more difficult to get rid of things. Looks like I'm going to have to post my items when I'm alone because I am getting the "I want that!"s from family members.

Well today.... I am getting rid of another batch of music CDs.

I don't listen to these so I'm adding them to the fateful box that will soon take a trip to donation-land.
