Day 90 - Acrylic Paint

I'm going to paint the town red!!! No, actually I'm going to get rid of red paint... and blue, too.

Red & Blue Acrylic Paint

This paint is old and I know I will never use it. So out it goes!

Day 89 - Phone

A little extra phone was sitting in a drawer.
It just sat there, not needed anymore.
It never heard a ring. It never heard "hello".
Now, sad little phone, it's time to go.

And he said to me...
Hello, hello. I don't know why you say goodbye. I say hello.

I think his name was Ringo!

Day 88 - Hoodie

To get rid of today: a little red riding hoodie! Actually this is a big red surfer hoodie made by Mossimo.

It once belonged to my son but he abandoned it after one or two wearings. Not his style, I guess. I am going to find it a new home.

Day 87 - Blouse

Have you ever bought an article of clothing, then later realized it didn't really fit properly? Then with all good intentions to return it to the store for an exchange or refund, you just never did? Well that's exactly what happened with this blouse. And I reeeeally LOVE it! Too bad it is the wrong size.

It has been in my closet for a good two years or more, long past the allowable time for returning. Time to let it go. Someone will benefit from my mistake.

Day 86 - Plate Hanger

A number of years ago I hung some plates in my kitchen. This is an extra plate hanger I never used, and I probably never will. So off it goes to the donation box.

Day 85 - Paper Clutter

You have seen paper clutter on my blog before and you will see plenty of it in the future. I have a lot of it. Here is some of it today. Trash time for the paper clutter!

Day 84 - Jeans

Jeans! Jeans! They're good for your heart. The more you have... Wait. But seriously, it seems you have to try on so many pairs in the department store dressing rooms before finally finding the right pair. You get them home, wear them and wash them a few times and then realize they didn't fit that well in the first place.

Therefore, the dresser drawers end up with infrequently worn jeans. Some of them are even forgotten completely. It's such a shame for something that costs so much. There must be a secret to finding the perfect pair. If any of you find out the secret, please let me know.

I am tempted to keep these jeans and cut them up to make a denim throw quilt. I really don't need another project right now, however, so instead they are going straight into the donation box.

Day 83 - Socks

This evening I am putting some perfectly good socks into the donation box. I don't like the feel of the fit.

The Salvation Army... Sockin' it to 'em!

Day 82 - CDs

I have not been enjoying these CDs much anymore. They were fun to listen to back when they were new in the mid to late 90s, but are no longer on my favorites list.

Since I have decided to keep only the things that I use and/or enjoy, these will be seeing the inside of the Salvation Army box. Toodles, Supertones!

Day 81 - Lunch Bag

There's no such thing as a free lunch. But there are less expensive lunches if you pack your own. Since this little lunch bag is too small, I use a larger bag. I like lots of food!

That means this bag is going into the donation box tonight.

Monday, March 21, 2011

Day 80 - Egg Crate Foam

Today I have "eggs"-actly the thing to toss. Egg crate foam! As infrequently as this is used, it is not worth the amount of space it takes up.

So I'm tossing it!

Day 79 - Turtleneck Pullover

Today I decided to give away a turtleneck pullover. I hung on to it for years because it is comfortable, but I can't remember the last time I wore it. Maybe it was in about 2001? That's ten years ago. TEN!

So into the donation box it goes. So long, turtleneck.

Day 78 - Baby Afghan for NIN

"Newborns in Need" is a charity that takes care of sick and needy babies. Volunteers use their talents to sew, knit, and crochet items for premature and full-term babies. Chapters throughout the United States collect formula, diapers, hygiene items, blankets, and clothes to distribute to local agencies and hospitals that serve premature, ill, and impoverished newborns. NIN also offers support to grieving families by providing bereavement and keepsake items to honor the precious lives lost due to miscarriage, SIDS, and other tragedies or complications.

I have a special place in my heart for these newborns and I donate my talents to this charity when I can. Several months ago I crocheted this baby afghan to donate. It was my desire to have several items to send all at once but I have not had the opportunity to sew or crochet anything else. Since it has been sitting and waiting, I have decided I will donate it now so it may be used by a needy little life.

God bless the little babies.

For anyone interested, here is a link to their website for more information.

Day 77 - Samples

Ever get samples at a cosmetics counter at your favorite department store? Do you use them? These samples I received have been occupying prime real estate in my home. Time for an eviction.

To the trash... and beyond!

Day 76 - Something Borrowed

Oh my goodness! I completely forgot that I still had this dress that I borrowed. Now that I have discovered it, it will be returned to its original owner promptly. It is going into my car tonight to be returned first thing in the morning.

This should have been returned long ago. I'm so embarrassed!

PS: Both boxed DVD sets of Desperate Housewives sold on eBay and have been shipped. (Days 65 and 68) You know what that means. Fewer items are taking up space in my house. Woot!

Oh and Happy St. Patty's Day, everyone!

Day 75 - Paper Clutter

I think I mentioned in an earlier post that paper clutter is my worst pet peeve. This is going into the recycle bin!

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Day 74 - Empty Boxes

I'm not completely sure why I save empty boxes, but I think it has something to do with potential. Emptiness has the possibility to be filled with so many wonderful things. Hmm... Maybe I should remember that the next time I'm feeling empty inside.

A box can prospectively be used to store things in, to wrap up with a gift inside, or to mail something to a friend. Ah yes, empty boxes represent many different opportunities. Yet, with too many of them crammed alongside other things inside a closet, potential is lost. Too much clutter means not being able to find things when needed. I truly believe that "less is more" so I'm opting to throw these boxes into the recycle bin!

Day 73 - Glue

At the beginning of the year I made a plan to clear my house of clutter during 2011, one day at a time. Today two bottles of old, dried out glue are going into the trash. Yep... sticking to the plan.

Dried out Elmer's

Day 72 - Junk

Some junk was cleaned out of a drawer this evening. I guess we can call it "Day 60 revisited". The trash can loves junk. And I love reclaiming drawer space!

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Day 71 - Coffee Mugs

After springing clocks forward one hour for daylight saving time, it will seem so much earlier tomorrow to get up to our morning coffee. I can happily say, though, that I always enjoy my coffee no matter how early.

Tomorrow I will have four fewer miscellaneous mugs hanging around. I'm not exactly sure where all of these came from, but there is no need to keep them. They will be gone with that hour we lose tonight! Tic-Toc... Time to go!

Friday, March 11, 2011

Day 70 - Quick Books

Quick!* Get rid of the old book! This eleven year old text book is being donated on account* of it being outdated. Maybe someone will receive* it and pay* attention to it.

*Puns intended. :)

Day 69 - RAYOVACs

I found some outdated batteries in a drawer. They immediately went into the plastic container for recycling batteries.

Recycling is good for the environment.

Day 68 - More Desperate Housewives

I'm trying to clean out my DVDs and movies so I listed another DVD Boxed Set on eBay: Desperate Housewives The Complete Third Season.

Getting desperate. Haha!

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Day 67 - Paper Tray

A mantra to those trying to discourage paper clutter is "File it. Don't pile it." In my opinion, this tiered paper tray does not help in this area since it takes up quite a bit of space. It just seems to be in the way.

I am going to add it to the donation box. Filed!

Day 66 - Magazines

One cause of "PackRat-itus" is sentiment. This is one of my biggest problems when it comes to stuff. I feel like I will lose a part of myself if I let go of certain items. Ironically, when I finally do get rid of these things, I feel a sense of freedom.

Tonight I am recycling magazines from the college my son graduated from. It's just silly for me to keep hanging on and hanging on JUST because he went to that university.

I glanced through them, but I don't really care much about reading them. He doesn't either. So this evening I let go!

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Day 65 - Desperate Housewives

Today I did a little listing on eBay. Up for auction with the "Buy It Now" option is Desperate Housewives: The Complete Second Season.

If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you the eBay link.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

Day 64 - Jeans

Today I'm getting rid of my daughter's old ripped up jeans! Trash? Donation box? Hmm... I need to think about this.

One way or the other, however, they ARE leaving my house. One more thing gone! Woot!

Friday, March 4, 2011

Day 63 - Shirt

Tonight this lonely Hawaiian shirt was telling me that no one ever takes him out of the closet anymore. No one wears him. Poor sad shirt. I told him I would ship him to a far away place where he can be adopted by someone who loves him. That made him happy! :)

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Day 62 - Keys

Want to know what these keys unlock? Nut 'n' Honey! So I would say the key to decluttering is throwing worthless things in the trash.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Day 61 - Text Books

I think (I think!) Microsoft Office has updated since '97. Any reason I should keep the old text books? Anyone? Anyone?

My Word!

They taught me well back then, but now they'll be going into the donation box.

Day 60 - Junk

Just a bunch of junk. What can I say?

It's all going into the trash, except for the batteries which will go into a container I use to recycle dead batteries.
