Day 212 - VHS Player

With the advent of DVDs, I certainly don't need the old VHS player I found collecting dust under my bed. (How did it get there?) DVDs may be on their way out, too, since streaming videos online are becoming more and more common. One part of me thinks "Yay! I can get rid of ALL my movies!" That would free up quite a bit of storage space. But there is another side of me, that sentimental side, which will always want to keep my very favorites. But for today, I will donate my VHS player.

Day 211 - Piano Keyboard

This piano keyboard isn't making music anymore. It has only been collecting dust. Time to give it a new home where someone will actually play it again, Sam!

Day 210 - Leather Jacket

My decluttered item for today is a leather jacket. I loved this jacket but it has seen its day. Its time has passed and it will be passed on to someone else.

Day 209 - Matted Print

Once upon a time, this matted print was in a frame. I don't remember taking it out of the frame. But here it is, rescued from the drawer that I don't remember stashing it in. I almost threw it in the trash, but it is pretty! It could be used... to put into another frame, for scrapbooking, to make into a greeting card, or for some other creative endeavor, but not the trash! I added it to the Salvation Army box.

Day 208 - Vest

It is Wednesday July 27, 2011 and to date I have gotten rid of 207 items this year. That number hits 208 today as I let go of a vest my son made a few years ago as part of a costume. It's going into the donation bag.

Day 207 - Lunch Bag

I got rid of a lunch bag back on Day 183, and today I have decided to purge my kitchen of another one. I simply cannot see any point in keeping something that I do not love and is not being used.

Day 206 - Christmas Platter

This melamine Christmas platter has been sitting on top of my refrigerator for eons. I always wanted to give it to someone at Christmas piled high with cookies. A number of Christmases have come and gone and the platter is still here. But not for long. It's going into the donation box right now!

Day 205 - Wrought Iron Ornaments

I always loved these wrought iron ornaments, but I never figured out what to do with them, so they ended up collecting dust in my garage. Since I know she loved them as much as I did, I decided to give them to my sister-in-law who also bought some the day I bought these. She has the means and the talent to do something I could never do.

Goodbye, pretty little ornaments! Enjoy your new home.

Day 204 - Ski Jacket

I opened up my hall closet again today to see what I could purge. I decided on this ski jacket. It has been worn but not in a very long time. No one in my house wears it and it has been hanging in the closet for years. Time to let it go.

For some reason it looks dirty in the picture, but it really isn't!

Day 203 - Pooh Calendar

Winnie the Pooh is so very endearing. I saved this old 1998 Winnie the Pooh calendar because it has the most wonderful little clips and quotes from A. A. Milne's books. How can anyone part with such adorable-ness?

Well, I'll tell you how. After storing it away for 13 years - well, 12 years, since the first year it was on the wall - I have realized that it has been out of sight, out of mind. If I keep it, it will again be stored away and I will not think about it. So I am going to get rid of it, but I'm not going to throw it in the trash. I have come up with a very creative idea which I will show you in a week to ten days or so. Keep your eyes opened! You'll love it!

Day 202 - Bottles and Cans

This bag of bottles and cans in my garage has been waiting for quite some to be recycled for cash. Today was the day I decided to do just that!

Day 201 - Game Boy Bag

One more item given away. One more item out of my house. One more little piece of "real estate" freed up and that much more elbow room for me. Today that item is a Game Boy bag.

Day 200 - Ring Box and Bag

Wow! Today is day 200 and I'm still going!!!!

Today I got rid of a broken ring box from a jewelry store and a little draw string bag that a piece of jewelry came in.

Ahhh yes! A little bit more room in my dresser drawer.

Day 199 - Spoons

I don't remember what prompted me many, many years ago, to begin a spoon collection, but I did. Whatever that inspiration was, it didn't last long. I tucked them away in a drawer after which I totally and completely forgot about them. These spoons do not have any meaning to me now, so they are today's choice to add to the donation box.

Day 198 - Ice Trays & Jars

Oh yes, I'm still at it, ridding my home of its clutter. Today I got rid of a couple of ice trays and some mason jars. I put them in one of the donation boxes.

Day 197 - Desk Chair

"Free" is such an enticing word. Who can pass up anything with that word on it? I put this desk chair on the curb with a FREE sign on it and in no time it was gone. Gone! I love it!

Day 196 - Christmas Tree Stand

Well, silly me... I got rid of my big artificial Christmas tree a few years ago and accidentally left the stand out of the box. Oops! I guess I'll donate the stand since I don't have a tree to fit it.

Day 194 - Coffee Mugs

Today I have chosen to set free some coffee mugs.

Donation box, here they come!

Day 193 - Clothes Pin Hangers

I hope I don't regret getting rid of these little clothes pin hangers, but I never ever use them. They're just taking up space in my drawer. I will put them into the donation box with so many other things.

I will need to set up a pickup date for the Salvation Army truck pretty soon.

Day 192 - More Notions

Still cleaning out my sewing corner today, I found I could get rid of more notions. Some of it will be donated; lots of tidbits of ribbons and lace, gathered ruffles, upholstery cord and piping. The rest of it is trash.

Day 191 - Fabric

Today I got rid of three pieces of fabric which I FreeCycled to a young lady who was looking for fabric for a project. I JUST happened to have some that was looking for a new home.

Day 190 - Sewing Notions

As they say "Use it or lose it!" Ribbons and lace, zippers, bias tape, and seam binding... I've got a boat load of notions! I haven't used any of these in many a moon. So I'm losin' it. It's going into my Salvation Army donation box today.

Day 189 - Thread

Cleaning out my sewing machine cabinet drawers today, I came across some thread that I don't need, and a little package of craft pom-poms. I gave it all to a young friend. It makes me happy knowing it will be used instead of sitting in a drawer.

Have fun with it, Megan! Make something cool. :)

Day 188 - Digital Camera

Too bad batteries got corroded inside this great little camera. Now it's ruined and no longer works. It is going to be recycled.

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Day 187 - Big Box

I received a printer/copier/scanner from my kids for Christmas and kept the box just in case there were any issues and we needed to return it. Six months later, no problems, so no more box. Putting it in the recycle barrel.

Day 186 - Jacket

Today I'm adding a jacket to the donation bag. In this summer heat, I don't even want to think about jackets!

Monday, July 4, 2011

Day 185 - Upholstery Fabric

Several years ago I came across some remnant upholstery fabric that matched my couch. The price was a great bargain so I thought I could make some pillows or some other "couchy" items for my family room. Needless to say, I never made anything with it. At this point, I know I never will. So out it goes today!

Later on it will be game time with kids and friends, hot dogs and root beer floats! A happy and safe 4th of July, everyone!

Day 184 - Shorts

Oh, it's hot today! Well, today I'm putting some shorts into the donation bag. My daughter says they just don't fit right. Too bad. On a hot day like today, they could be pretty cool.

Day 183 - Lunch Bag

Today I got rid of an old lunch bag. It still looks new in the picture, but it is actually pretty old and yucky. Bye, old bag!

Friday, July 1, 2011

Day 182 - Dolphins

These cute little blue dolphins that belonged to my daughter were the lucky choice to be added to donation box today.
